And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. -2 Corinthians 3:18
This Brené Brown quote reminded me of 2 Corinthians 3:18, the Scripture that tells us that we are being transformed by the Holy Spirit to become more Christ-like, going from glory to glory. I started thinking that those stages of glory are like points on the map of our journey, but that verse doesn’t tell us what happens in between.
Maybe going from one glorious stage to next requires a holy, messy middle. Maybe, in that ambiguous in-between space, the Holy Spirit walks us through seasons of discomfort, upheaval, resistance, and uncertainty because that’s where the transformation takes place that prepares us for the next state of glory. Maybe wrestling through the pain and pressure of the transition is exactly what God uses to qualify us for what is to come on the next point on our journey. Maybe what looks and feels like utter chaos is actually the precision work that God is using to do a necessary work in and through us. Maybe the mess is part of our miracle.
